The St. Joseph Curling club was formed in the summer of 2012 when two sets of curling stones, along with all other equipment needed for 4 sheets of ice were purchased by Missouri Western State University. This included 32 Brooms, 8 Hacks, 10 sliders and a pebble. The first curling events were held on August 17 and 18 of 2012. After a successful fall season with many new participants, the second two sets of stones were purchased, giving the club the full four sets needed for participation at Bode Ice Arena.
Missouri Western State University began its first ever curling class in January of 2013 that included 30 students. The first league was held in March of 2013. The club is continuing to grow and is hopeful to introduce curling to the city of St. Joseph and the surrounding communities.
Following several years of league play and occasional Learn to Curl events, the club has survived with it's small membership. In 2026 following the Winter Olympics, interest grew rapidly with member's efforts getting the word out and a record breaking 75 people showed up for a learn to curl in February. Following the successful fun night, 50 signed up to become members of the 2026 Spring League and have since become part of the "Curling Culture" in St Joseph. Our efforts to grow our membership and help introduce people to this great sport are finally paying off. We welcome you to come check us out!
